Dear Westwood Families:
Happy 2021! I hope that the holiday season has been kind to you. I trust that you spent the past two weeks relaxing and spending time with family and friends. As promised, I have an update to remind you of the school district's plan to return to the hybrid learning model (in-person learning).
After consulting with the Wayne County Health Division (WCHD), we will move forward with our previously announced plan to return to hybrid in-person learning on Monday, January 11, 2021.
We remain focused on providing a safe environment for our students and staff and will continue to follow our local and state health officials' direction. You should know that before the shift to 100% distance learning on November 23, 2020, we had no evidence of transmission of the COVID-19 virus within our school buildings. While we did have relatively few confirmed cases, the cases were isolated. Additionally, the Wayne County Health Division has approved the school district's mitigation plan—health and safety protocols.
The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us to be flexible and has helped us to lean on one another. The cooperation you have provided to our teachers and support staff to help our children push through these challenging times has been inspirational.
Health officials indicate that the rollout of vaccines for educators will occur soon. To follow WCHD vaccine updates and access information, please visit https://www.waynecounty.com/covid19/covid-19-vaccine-information.aspx
A separate letter will come from your child's Principal regarding the hybrid learning schedule and other important information. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at simmonss@wwschools.net
Sincerely,
Stiles X. Simmons, Ed.D.
